XX.  Kimika

I am a Japanese artist who lives in Seville, South Spain. I use art as a form of communication and as a way to address questions and share them with others, in order to try to find the truths, which I am constantly looking for. I want to express through my art the feelings, soul and emotions of everyday life in the context that surrounds me. I like to connect to the place where I am working through the people, the spirits and the air.

The title of my exhibition is XX and refers to the chromosome XX, which defines the female sex of all mammals.

XX makes me analyse the course of my life, to analyse my artistic work,  and at the same time it is a metaphor: to take the crossed threads that move with the wind, from the fabrics with which I compose and assemble the works that I show in this exhibition.

These drawings and collages arose as a result of my relationship and work with the Sahrawi women in my first visit in 2011 to the refugee camps in Tindouf, in Algeria, and have developed in several subsequent visits.

The pieces of cloth I work with are part of the colourful traditional dress of the Sahrawi woman; the mehlfa - it’s a second skin - 4 meters of brightly coloured hand-dyed fabric, with which women wrap their body and hair to protect themselves from the sun and harsh climate, while at the same time feeling beautiful.

The fragments of their mehlfas, which the women have given me, form my multi-coloured palette, which I sew, paste, join, fragment, interweave, superimpose, tie, link and confront, to form these textile works that glide sinuously along the thin line that separates the figurative and the abstract, and like the desert, show everything and nothing.

The past years were very difficult for me as a woman; I had to face and overcome with courage a serious challenge to my health. From there, my art has moved towards a more intimate interpretation, more in relation to my own body and the bodies of women in general. Now I through sewing join the mehlfas of Sahrawi women with the global woman and the origin of the world.

Now fully recovered present my new work, I take the thread that unites my art with life and destiny, in a luminous series of works that transform pain into beauty, and my heart can speak happily, singing my emotions.

XX.  Kimika

Soy una artista japonesa que vivo en España, en Sevilla. Utilizo el arte como una forma de comunicación y como una manera de abordar preguntas y compartirlas con otros, para así intentar encontrar las verdades, que permanentemente estoy buscando. Quiero expresar a través de mi arte los sentimientos, el alma y las emociones de la vida cotidiana del contexto que me rodea. Me gusta conectar con el sitio donde voy a trabajar a través de la gente, el espíritu y el aire.

El título de mi exposición es XX y alude al cromosoma XX que es el diferenciador del sexo femenino de los mamíferos.

XX me lleva a retomar el curso de mi vida, reanudar mi labor artística, al mismo tiempo que es una metáfora: tomar los hilos cruzados que vagan al viento, de las telas con las que compongo y armo las obras que muestro en esta exposición.  

Estos dibujos y collages brotaron fruto de mi relación y trabajo con las mujeres saharauis a partir de mi primera visita en 2011 a los campamentos de población refugiada de Tinduf , en Argelia, Y han ido germinado en varias visitas posteriores.

Los trozos de tela con los que trabajo, son parte de la colorida vestimenta tradicional de la mujer saharaui; la melhfa -su segunda piel- una pieza de 4 metros de tela de brillantes de llamativos colores tintados a mano, con la que las mujeres envuelven su cuerpo y su cabello para  protegerse del sol, de las inclemencias y dureza del clima, y al mismo tiempo sentirse bonitas.

Los fragmentos de melfas, que me han ido regalando las mujeres, forman mi paleta multicolor, que coso, pego, uno, trazo, entretejo, superpongo, ato, enlazo y confronto, para formar estas obras textiles que se deslizan sinuosamente por la delgada línea que separa lo figurativo y lo abstracto, y al igual que el desierto, muestran el todo y la nada.

Los años pasados fueron muy difíciles para mí como mujer; tuve que enfrentar y superar con valentía un grave reto a mi salud. A partir de ahí, mi arte ha caminado hacia un aspecto más íntimo, más en relación a mi propio cuerpo y al cuerpo de las mujeres en general, y ahora puedo coser las melfas de las mujeres saharauis con la mujer global y el origen del mundo.  

Ya recuperada y a punto de presentar mi nueva obra, tomo con fuerza el hilo que une mi arte con la vida y el destino, en una luminosa serie de trabajos que transforman el dolor en belleza, y mi corazón puede hablar alegremente, cantando mis emociones.
