ARTIST RESIDENCY  “Espacio Redondo” 2014     GRAZALEMA, CÁDIZ


The contemporary art gallery” Neilson” is now accepting applications for its  2014 Artists in Residency program. The program is aimed at those artists interested in developing a specific project and covers all cultural fields including Photography, painting, illustration, audiovisuals, music and literature.

The Residency is organized for a maximum of 2 artists at the same time. Each program is adapted to the necessities and profile of the artist, though as a base, there is available shared accommodation in a self catering apartment and work area in the art gallery.

In the case of visual artists there is included in the program visits to other artist studios and art galleries in the nearby cities of Malaga and Sevilla, with the aim to meet other artists and get to know the contemporary art scene in Southern Spain. There is also the possibility to increase the length of the residency either within the Neilson gallery or in one of the artists studios visited or in other programs of urban exchanges.

Within the program there is an “open door” day when the public can see the work in progress and the artist can make a presentation.

The gallery is situated in Grazalema at the heart of the Natural Park”, Sierra de Grazalema” Andalucía, Southern Spain, and offers a ideal place for the creation and development of projects.

Duration:                   Flexible, though minimum time is 1 month

Dates:                        April to October.  

Includes:                   Studio, Accommodation, Studio and Gallery visits, Presentation of the artists Work 


The Studio:

The studio will be shared by up to a maximum of 2 artists; there is 24h access and wifi.

The space has natural and artificial lighting. The artist is responsible for the supply of their own

materials such as canvases, brushes, paints, computers, cameras etc.


The Accommodation:

The “Espacio Redondo” is a catering apartment, individual or shared with other participants of the residency program. It is are fully, with living area, kitchen and bathroom and 2 double bedrooms for individual use or shared if the participant comes accompanied.


Visits:

There are organized visits to Galleries, art centers and Museums in one of the cities of Cádiz, Málaga or Sevilla (to be jointly decided.) There is also the opportunity to meet other Spanish artists.

Also included is day long hike in the mountains of the Sierra de Grazalema.


Open Door:

The artist has the opportunity to present his work, this is often organized to coincide with the an opening of a new exhibition that the Neilson Gallery has organized for that month.


Digital Documentation:

The stay is documented with photographs, work, press releases etc, all collected in a dedicated page within the Neilson gallery web site…


Cost: 950 €  per artist for a residency of one month

There are discounts for stays of longer periods, shared residencies up to 2 artists, and for partners of the artist.
