The artists that the Neilson Gallery is exhibiting at the India Art Fair come from different cities in the south of Spain, a region shaped by a complex process of fusion of different peoples and cultures over the centuries. Andalusia, which lies only a few kilometres from the coast of Africa and is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, has throughout its history fostered numerous artistic movements, on which our contemporary artists still continue to draw. The ever-present beauty of the Hispano-Moorish or Andalusian architecture, the baroque movement lead by Velazquez, the 19th century romantics and the key 20th century figure of Pablo Picasso, are some of the influences evident in our three Andalusian artists, who belong to different generations and whose work has developed in very interesting though widely diverging ways. From abstraction through to the figurative, the works are evidence of different artistic experiences which nevertheless converge on a common theme: “Nature Transformed”
